About Subwaydle

Subwaydle is a puzzle game designed to test your knowledge of the New York subway system. Just like Wordle, it presents a daily challenge, but instead of guessing words, players must figure out the specific route that connects two of the 472 subway stations in the city. The goal is to plan a trip with a specific number of transfers, adhering to the rules of the subway system.

How to play

Daily Challenge: A fresh riddle reveals a particular path between two New York City subway stops every day. The various subway lines and transfers must be used to plan route players.

Follow Subway Rules: Players are required to follow the limitations and regulations of the New York City subway system, such as prohibiting bus connections, out-of-station transfers, and backtracking.

Color-Coded tips: Similar to Wordle, the tiles change color to offer tips after each attempt. Players can narrow down their options and discover the right path with the aid of color codes.

Puzzles on the weekends are based on the weekend schedules, while those played during the weekdays adhere to the midday train schedules.

Transfers and Stations: Players can choose from a variety of paths to get where they're going, but the objective is to choose the one that best fits the given puzzle. Planning the route requires consideration of stations with the same name and authorized transfer places.

No Backtracking: During a tour, players are not permitted to stop at the same station more than once.

Transfer Restrictions: Only at intersections of subway lines are transfers permitted. It is possible to change from a local line to an express line, then return to the same local line, but not the other way around.

Staten Island Ferry and South Ferry Stations: The Staten Island Ferry connects South Ferry, Whitehall St-South Ferry, and Bowling Green stations to or from St. George station.

Free Transfers and Restrictions: Some stations offer free transfers, however not all stations permit transfers in all directions because of restrictions on the publicly available data.

The "Hint" button in Subwaydle instructs players where to begin and conclude their journeys but withholds the subway lines' identities. It can be difficult to find the right answer.
