Smirky is a fast-paced and strategic word puzzle game created by Cronno. The game combines elements of tile-sliding mechanics with word formation, offering a challenging and engaging experience. Players are tasked with spelling out words from a grid of tiles, aiming to clear them efficiently and score as many points as possible. With multiple rounds, including Normal, Rush, and Bonus rounds, Smirky keeps players on their toes, offering a mix of thoughtful planning and quick reflexes. The game also features advanced mechanics like combos, pinning, and multi-select, allowing for deeper strategies as players progress.
How to Play
Smirky is easy to understand but offers plenty of depth as you develop your word-forming strategies. Here’s how to play:
- Basic Controls:
- Move the cursor using the Arrow Keys to navigate the board.
- Slide tiles horizontally by holding the Z key while moving to form words with 4 or more letters.
- Clear words by moving the cursor atop them and pressing X to score points.
- Rounds:
- Normal Round: You can take your time to set up combos and clear words. This round allows for relaxed and thoughtful play as you build longer words for higher scores.
- Rush Round: After a certain number of tiles are cleared, the Rush Round begins. A timer starts, and you must quickly clear as many of the remaining tiles as possible before the timer runs out.
- Bonus Round: The length of this round is determined by the number of tiles left after the Rush Round. You’ll be given a new board to clear, earning extra points as you form words within the time limit.
- Advanced Techniques:
- Combos: When a word is cleared, all tiles above it will fall. If these falling tiles form a new word upon landing, that word will also be cleared, earning you extra points in a combo.
- Pin: Press the C key to create a pin on the current tile. While the pin is active, clearing and combo previews will behave as though the cursor is at the pin’s position, helping you visualize potential combos while you build them.
- Letter Search: Hold the Shift key and press any letter key to highlight all tiles containing that letter. Hold both Shift and the Spacebar to highlight all vowels, helping you quickly spot potential words.
- Multi-Select: Holding the Spacebar while moving the cursor expands its size, allowing you to select and move multiple tiles at once, which can help clear larger sections of the board.
- Undo: During the Normal Round, you can press the Backspace key to undo your moves, up to 5 times in a row, allowing you to correct mistakes. During the Rush and Bonus rounds, holding the undo button will skip to the end of the round, providing a way to bypass a challenging section.
